Radio Commercials
Voicing my first joint radio commercial
This month I was asked to co-voice a radio commercial for Arriva Buses. I’d never done due narration for a commercial before, so I was quite excited to work in the booth alongside another voiceover artist.
Duo narration is way more fun because you have another actor you can bounce off. The world of voiceover can be quite solitary at times. Sometimes I’m working in a hired studio using a two way booth and I may have a producer, director and/or client working in the booth next to me. Other times, I might be recording from my home studio. The client and director may be in a different time zone, so I have to work independently and receive feedback or any redirection from the client at a later date.
It made a nice change to get away from my home studio and work with a team of people, in person and in real time.
What was it like to work with the other actor?
The other voice actor and I had so much fun working on this. I’d never met him before, therefore I had no idea what his working style would be, but luckily he was really friendly and open to trying lots of things.
We were given a lot of freedom from the client to play. His character had to be really energetic and active and mine had to come across as lazy and sedentary, so we played around with speed and voice levels, along with yawning through takes. The more be upped his energy, the more drive it gave me to lower mine.
I’m really proud of the final product and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed voicing it! Take a listen on the right hand side.
Rosie.
