Getting Started as a Voice Actor
How I got into voice acting
My journey as a voice actor started in 2016. A friend of mine needed a female voice actor to narrate an animation video about safety in the workplace for her employees. She asked me if I could send her a demo. If her boss liked me, she would book me and pay me for it.
I recorded the demo on my phone, not expecting to hear anything back. The next day, I got a phone call to say I was hired! They booked a recording studio for me to record the script and that became my first booking as a female voice actor.
I really enjoyed the whole experience and wanted more of it. Some actor friends of mine had worked as voiceover artists alongside their acting work. This showed me that I could make it work for me too.
Getting Relevant Training
I booked onto some courses in how to get myself set up and produced some voice reels. Since then, I have gone on to record a variety of voiceovers. From audiobooks to corporate films. Explainer videos to IVR Commercials to documentaries and many more! Every job is so unique. The variety of genres, styles, accents and scripts keeps me on my toes. There is never a dull moment in my world of work.
